SSL server certificates can offer your end users some assurance about the identity of a website's host. Janet Certificate Service allows you to request an unlimited number of certificates in order to authenticate your website.
The service offers a range of features that have been designed to speed up the process of requesting certificates. An online system automates the certificate request process for all .ac.uk and .gov.uk domains. We can also issue certificates for other domains for which you are the registered owner. The interface enables you to monitor and manage new and existing certificates (including certificate revocation), and when certificates are close to expiry, you will receive alerts automatically generated by the system.
From 3 June 2013, a charge was introduced for the service to ensure its continuation, and we've also improved the way you can purchase, manage and update your certificates. The new JCS web app is a simple-to-use online app available on the Janet Community website.

The online portal keeps track of all certificates issued via Janet. Certificates will be tagged with expiration dates and you will be alerted by the system when your certificates need renewing.
A range of SSL certificates can be requested by subscribers of the Janet Certificate Service. The range includes Comodo single and multi domain certificates, Extended Validation, Unified Communication, and Wildcard Certificates.

Request a certificate
To purchase certificates on behalf of your organisation (if you are currently not a registered user of the service), please complete the application form. If you have any questions, please email the Janet Service Desk.
Service Level Description
Janet's Certificate Service issues and manages SSL server certificates that are used in software security systems (e.g. websites) that employ public key infrastructure technology. The service can also provide certificate advice and technical guidance.
Hours of Service
Organisations can manage and submit requests 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year, via the JCS Web App. Requests requiring manual intervention will be processed during the Business Day.
The customer is responsible for:
- ensuring the list of Authorised Users if kept up to date and any changes in responsibility of users are promptly reflected in access to the organisation's Janet Certificate Service account.
- using the online Janet Certificate Service web app, promptly revoking unused certificates obtained from the service.
Sevice Delivery Time
Membership requests will be processed within three Business Days of receipt of all necessary customer information.
Certificate requests will be checked and validated to ensure they conform to the appropriate IETF request for Comment Memorandum within one Business Day, thus ensuring the Certificate Authority can successfully process the request.
