About the service

The JANET Web Hosting Service provides space on central web servers for JANET organisations to publish their websites. It is operated by RM (Research Machines plc).

The service is suitable both for a production website and as a standby web site for contingency purposes. Organisations may find it useful in their planning for business continuity. It is available to all organisations with a Primary JANET connection. JANET(UK) makes a basic charge of £220 p.a. (except that at the time of writing, use by Specialist College and ACL sectors will be funded centrally by the LSC). Details of this and other charges are at: Applying to Use the Web Hosting Service. The main features include:

• Windows Server 2003 and Linux (Red Hat Enterprise v.4) Hosting
• PLESK control panel interface provides straightforward administration of your Web site, making the creation of sub domains and Web sites easy 
• Uploading of website content using FTP, Plesk and Microsoft FrontPage
• 5GB storage space per hosted domain, with the option to purchase additional web space if required
• Daily backups of user data and a simple process for recovering backup data
• On-demand statistical reports by hosted domain.
