Manufacturer's Response - Tandberg FieldViewTM

Page 2

1. Hardware description

Tandberg:

In addition to G.711 audio, the Fieldview system also supports GSM 6.10 for low bandwidth environments.

1. Preset Media Configurations in calls to SIP enabled endpoints

In calls to a SIP enabled endpoint for example a Tandberg Edge 95 system the FieldView™ preset Media Configurations: Medium (528*416) and High (720*576) are not supported, in such calls to a VC endpoint, only resolutions of 320*240, 352*288 and 702*576 are supported. The Custom Media Configuration setting must be used to access higher resolutions, frame rates and bandwidths.

Tandberg:

The Tandberg Edge 95 system supports standard CIF/SIF resolutions. Since the medium and high configurations are not CIF/SIF based, they are grayed out.

2. Subject Audio in calls to an SIP enabled endpoint

During direct calls to an Edge 95 endpoint the subject audio was not received at the remote end, the bidirectional audio operated as expected. This subject audio is MPEG-1 which is not supported by the Edge 95.

Tandberg:

Subject audio is G.711 or optionally GSM 6.10 (not MPEG-1). Since the Tandberg Edge 95 system only accepts one audio stream, the subject audio is not supported.

3. External line level audio

Although the documentation indicated that the external audio line input was at line level we found that inputting normal line level from either a DVD player or tone generator caused the received audio at the remote end to be at a much higher level than from the microphone. As a consequence this input had to be significantly attenuated to provide acceptable audio quality.

Tandberg:

The user can adjust volume levels within the Fieldview Application.

4. Image cropping on Medium Media Configuration

On selection of the Medium Media configuration the image viewed at the FieldViewTM application on a PC was cropped by ~20% in both vertical and horizontal aspects. The image viewed on the transmitting FieldViewTM device viewfinder was however not cropped.

Tandberg:

At some resolutions, the streamed image may be cropped. The Fieldview Device includes an option to highlight the cropped area on the viewfinder to show the operator exactly what is displayed on the Fieldview Application.

5. Connectivity with Other Machines (models listed with comments)

Direct connections were attempted between the FieldViewTM unit and Tandberg Edge 95 and Lifesize Team CODECS which support SIP, with the following results:

FieldViewTM dials Tandberg Edge Connection OK
Tandberg Edge dials FieldViewTM Unreachable destination
FieldViewTM dials Lifesize Team No Connection
Lifesize team dials FieldViewTM Connection OK

Tandberg:

Connections between a Fieldview device and a Tandberg Edge system can generally be initiated from either end. Any connection problems are usually configuration or firewall/network based. The operator should verify the following:

  • The destination URI is in the form of: ‘someone@x.x.x.x’. The dial plan is specifically set to SIP.
  • The Tandberg Edge is not registered to any SIP registrar OR the Tandberg Edge is registered to a SIP registrar that is on the same subnet as the Fieldview Device (the SIP messages will come via the registrar).

6. Summary

Tandberg:

In addition to G.711 audio, the Fieldview system also supports GSM 6.10 for low bandwidth environments

The evaluation was performed using the Fieldview Device software version 3.76.0.0. The most recent Fieldview Device version, 3.98.0.0, includes further improvements such as enhanced video quality, improved connection reliability, and enhanced operation over low bandwidth networks.

A Tandberg FieldviewEx mobile device model is also available. This model includes a ruggedized enclosure and hazardous location approvals.
