JANET Videoconferencing Case Studies: Wiltshire Council
Schools and Employers use Videoconferencing towards a 14-19 Diploma
Wiltshire Council has been using videoconferencing to encourage take-up of 14-19 diplomas and reduce the cost and time spent by students travelling around the region to attend courses.
The 14-19 team is currently developing a network to link Schools, Colleges and Employers together across the county, and further afield. This includes links to companies as diverse as cosmetic firms and local high street hairdressers (via the new JVCS Desktop feature). Links have been made with local businesses to address subjects such as Personal Finance and Financial Services as well as Sales and Customer Service. Videoconferencing will be used to assess practical work over different sites for courses such as Creative and Media Diploma.
Project Leader Andrew Malcolm says, "The potential of videoconferencing for pupils in rural parts of our region means it will become a key component in the delivery of Diplomas in Wiltshire." Andrew and the 14-19 team are working closely with schools and Employers to develop new connections and opportunities.
