Spreading Disability Awareness through Videoconferencing

Sussex based charity EnableMe used videoconferencing technology to connect several schools to patron, Swasie Turner during his 100 mile wheelchair push.

Swasie, a figure head for the charity and fund raiser met students at Littlehampton school to raise awareness of disabilities and involve them in his 100 mile wheelchair record attempt.  Through the use of videoconferencing he was able to involve multiple schools who could ask him questions and interact with other students. “Now we know how easy it is to videoconference, we will definitely be doing some more, said Emma Taylor, Assistant Head at West Chillington School.  “The live videoconference enabled students to pose questions directly to Swasie as well as interact with other students of different ages.”

Enable Me aims to raise disability awareness in the community by working with schools, colleges and other organisations in the statutory and/or voluntary sector. ”Swasie is an amazing ambassador for the charity,he’s a great role model,, States Ann Stiimspon, Director and Volunteer at Enable Me.  “The videoconference on Wednesday was a fascinating experience; - by using this technology we can reach even more schools, at the same time.  It’s definitely the way forward.  It promotes the exchange of ideas and learning and opens up great possibilities.”
