JVCRS (JANET Videoconferencing Recording Service) Pilot

intro to equipment

Organisations currently registered with JVCS are invited to participate in the free JVCRS (JANET Videoconferencing Recording Service) pilot. The aim is to gather feedback with a view to turning this pilot into a full service for the JANET Community.

How it Works

Recordings of booked and launched videoconferences may be created via the Booking Service and will then be made available for download after the conference.

While making their conference booking, users will be able to select from a range of recording options to suit their data playback needs such as Output format, Video size and Video bitrate:

recording options

The following choice of output formats will initially be available during the pilot:

  • MPEG-1 (.mp1 )
  • MPEG-4 (.mp4)
  • Windows Media (.wmv)
  • QuickTime (.mov)
  • Adobe Flash (.swf)
  • Flash Video (.flv)

Once completed and ready for download, recordings will be made available to those who originally booked the videoconference.

It is anticipated that in the pilot phase of the JANET Videoconferencing Recording Service, recordings will stored for two weeks before deletion from the server but this may change depending on usage.

We hope to pilot the Recording Service during the first quarter of 2009.

Uses For Recordings

Once a recording has been downloaded it is the property of the organisation.

Possible uses may include:

  • replaying of lessons
  • online promotion
  • future demonstrations
  • meeting or interview reviews
  • performance feedback
