AGSC Alerts and Warnings

If you would like to have the latest Alerts and Warnings (e.g. service downtime due unscheduled outages and warnings of scheduled maintenance) from the AGSC automatically delivered to your desktop, you need to install an RSS reader (there are various readers available, such as these in the Google directory). Once you have your reader, you need to present it with the address of the AGSC RSS feed linked from this logo: RSS This link is also on the AGSC home page.



10 Nov 2008 - IOCOM Users Only - Essential maintenance to backup server knight.agsc.man.ac.uk

Due to essential maintenance on Wednesday the 12th of November, the backup IOCOM server knight.agsc.man.ac.uk will not be available throughout this day.

Therefore it is essential that all IOCOM users only attempt to use the primary server virgo.agsc.man.ac.uk

We expect the maintenance to be completed by 09:00 on Thursday 13th of November.

22 Oct 2008 - Service resumed on AG3 Server sam.ag.manchester.ac.uk

Normal service on the AG3 Server sam.ag.manchester.ac.uk has been resumed.

As previously stated a power failure in the rack caused the outage. We are currently investigating the route cause to ensure this does not happen again

We apologise to all AG Toolkit users who were affected by this service outage.

22 Oct 2008 - Update - AG3 Server Sam down due to rack power failure

The Access Grid Toolkit Venue Server https://sam.ag.manchester.ac.uk:8000/Venues/default went down due to a power failure in the rack

For the moment, please use https://fraser.ag.manchester.ac.uk:8000/Venues/default

If you are using a bridge then please use the AGSC_backup bridge

We will notify you when the problem has been resolved and the server is working again.

This does not affect IOCOM users.

09 Oct 2008 - Wednesday 15th of October - The AGSC are moving office so cannot carry out QA tests

The Access Grid Support Centre is moving to a new building on Wednesday 15th of October.

During this day we will not be able to carry out any QA tests but we will continue offering our usual level of support throughout the day.

Everything will be back to normal again by Thursday 16th of October.

This office move will not affect any of our Access Grid services.

03 Oct 2008 - IOCOM IG Users only - please do not upgrade your IG Client until further notice from the AGSC

Some IOCOM IG users may have received an email from IOCOM Support this morning instructing them to upgrade their IG Client to version 2.0.5 by the 9th of October.

Please do not follow these instructions until the AGSC have made an official announcement.

Our policy has always been that you must only use the IG Client version currently supported by the AGSC, and it follows that you must only download the IG Client from the AGSC. Any IG users downloading the latest version directly from IOCOM may find this version is not compatible with the AGSC's IOCOM servers virgo.agsc.man.ac.uk and knight.agsc.man.ac.uk

We will provide further instructions on this as soon as we have more information, but for now, no action is required, so please carry on using your current version.

01 Oct 2008 - AG Toolkit Users only - Services restarted on primary Toolkit server sam.ag.manchester.ac.uk

Both the VenueServer and BridgeServer services were restarted on sam.ag.manchester.ac.uk at 11:30 this morning.

This outage will have prevented AG Toolkit users from connecting to sam.ag.manchester.ac.uk with their VenueClient and also any users attempting to connect to the 'AGSC' Bridge. The backup services running on fraser.ag.manchester.ac.uk, which includes the 'AGSC_Backup' Bridge were unaffected.

We apologise to any AG Toolkit users who may have been affected by this short service outage.

19 Sep 2008 - Essential Maintenance to backup services - Sunday 21st September

On Sunday 21st of September, due to essential power systems maintenance, our backup AG Toolkit server fraser.ag.manchester.ac.uk and backup IOCOM server knight.agsc.man.ac.uk will be taken offline until later on that evening.

This maintenance will not affect the main AG Toolkit and IOCOM servers.

All backup services will be resumed by the early morning of Monday the 22nd of September.

19 Sep 2008 - IOCOM IG Users Only - Reminder that roberts.agsc.man.ac.uk will not be available after 26/09/2008

As previously announced, the IOCOM server roberts.agsc.man.ac.uk will not be available after Friday 26th September 2008.

Therefore any IG users who currently connect to roberts.agsc.man.ac.uk must start using virgo.agsc.man.ac.uk as soon as possible.

IG users who already use virgo.agsc.man.ac.uk are not be affected by this, and no action is required.

The backup server knight.agsc.man.ac.uk is also unaffected by this.

29 Aug 2008 - AGTK users - removal of files off servers

FAO AGTK users

As part of data cleanup, if you have shared a document in a virtual venue on either sam.ag.manchester.ac.uk or fraser.ag.manchester.ac.uk then we will be removing files from those servers every Friday night at midnight.

Files uploaded to a virtual venue are kept there normally even when you leave the venue, so it's advisable to delete them before you leave your meeting

22 Aug 2008 - IOCOM Users Only - Important changes to service.

As part of an overall upgrade to our IOCOM services, the IG server roberts.agsc.man.ac.uk will be removed from service on the 26th of September 2008.

This means that from the 26th of September onwards, all users of an IOCOM IG client will only be able to connect to virgo.agsc.man.ac.uk - In addition to this, knight.agsc.man.ac.uk will still be available and remains as the backup server.

This change will only affect the minority of IG users, as most use virgo.agsc.man.ac.uk and not roberts.agsc.man.ac.uk - Any IG users who already have virgo set as their default server will not need to do anything.

If you currently use roberts.agsc.man.ac.uk, please follow these instructions to change your default IG server to virgo.agsc.man.ac.uk: Go into IG Node Configuration (from the Start/Programs Windows menu) and make sure virgo.agsc.man.ac.uk is listed as the IG Server (UCS). In addition to this, we recommend changing your web browser's home page to virgo.agsc.man.ac.uk
