Networking Skills Review

JANET(UK) has commissioned a review of the key technical skills required to support a JANET connected site’s access to the network. For example what skills, technical and personal, do Network Officers or IT Officers need to fulfil their role? We are looking to create a framework on which line managers and individuals can benchmark their skills against a UK wide list.

This framework will be based on SFIA (Skills Framework for the Information Age) an internationally recognised framework designed to enable organisations to develop the right skills within their teams. Our hope is to build on this framework to include transferable technology requirements specific to the JANET community. We hope that this will support individuals and teams in identifying effective personal and professional development activities both formal and informal.

How will the review take place?

This review is being overseen by JANET Training and will include, consultation with national bodies such as UCISA and AoC, interviews with IT and Networking Managers and a survey of technical staff.

Training Course Accreditation

JANET(UK) is also exploring the options available to them in providing accreditation for their courses. The results of the skills review will help to shape the qualification themes designed by JANET Training. This will be vital in providing qualifications that develop and identify individuals who can have a real impact within their organisation.
