The clients of the JANET News Feed Service
Each client of the JANET Usenet News Feed Service is associated with one of the JANET News Feed servers which directly supports them with a primary News feed. JANET(UK) allocates client organisations to the servers so as to best maintain the performance of the service as a whole and its use of JANET resources.
News clients also have another server designated to provide a secondary feed, which is little used in normal operation but which offers automatic resilience against the more probable faults. The secondary feed for each server is shown in brackets after the server name.
During last quarter 2006, two co-location based News Feed servers were made operational to take over the function of the original four servers. Organisations have been migrating to the JANET Usenet News Reader Service which has allowed for this rationalisation. This web page has been updated to reflect that change.
