Message-ID

Please supply the Message-ID if you can. There may be many articles in some sequence, in which case supply all the Message-IDs.

Nature of the material

An indication such as one of the following would be helpful, but use whatever words you wish.

  • Child pornography
  • Indecent images
  • Copyright material
  • Racially offensive material
  • Personally defamatory material

In general the Service can only act on material for which the originator could be prosecuted under UK legislation. Where the sole basis for your concern is that you personally find something offensive, you should in the first instance contact your local computing service support staff for advice. You or they may subsequently wish to refer to JANET Service Desk .

What happens next?

JANET Customer Service will pass your report to the service managers who will consider it and may be in touch with:

  • the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF)
  • the JANET Usenet News Service operators
  • JANET CSIRT
  • law enforcement agencies
  • JANET customer organisations
  • other Internet service providers
  • other organisations as appropriate.

It will not always be possible to pass back to you all the details of any action taken, but you should have an acknowledgment of your report within one working day.
