JANET Netsight®
JANET Netsight provides visibility of the performance of the JANET network. The system is available to JANET connected organisations and the regional network providers. This page describes the system in outline.
Netsight makes all data available from a single source, a central relational database, and has resilience of data collection and delivery. The centralised Web interface is built on an extensible architecture, which will support extra measurement types in addition to the SNMP traffic and ICMP ping (availability and latency) data already available.
Some features available are:
- Graphing supports flexible (‘click and drag’) selection of time scales
- Ability to create graphs of aggregated data (e.g. plot the mean traffic levels for a site)
- Ability to annotate graphs for particular paths, e.g. to explain past outages
- Schematic network maps can be defined for regional and local areas, featuring ‘clickable’ areas which allow users to ‘drill-down’ for more local detail
It should be noted that the features available to specific users are dependant on their permissions.
A short introduction to Netsight can be found at:

The Netsight system is based at Bracknell and Chilton, serving as master and standby locations respectively. Data is collected at Bracknell, Manchester and London, the latter located with JANET's peerings to external networks.
Users access the system through the central web interface: http://netsight.ja.net
Future Development
As Netsight is based on an extensible architecture, this will allow the collection of further measurement types. Additional information on future developments will be posted on the JANET Development pages.
