Eligibility
Organisations eligible for the JANET Server Certificate Service are:
1. Organisations in receipt of a Primary Connection to JANET;
or
2. Local or Unitary Authorities connected to the National Education Network in England (either directly or via a Regional Broadband Consortium); or to the Scottish Schools Digital Network in Scotland; or to the Lifelong Learning Network in Wales; or to Classroom 2000 in Northern Ireland.
It should be noted that certificates issued through this service cannot be used for commercial transactions so cannot be used to secure credit card transactions or any other request that will result in the transfer of money between individuals or organisations.
Certificates that do support financial transactions can be obtained through an existing agreement with Comodo CA. Previously JANET connected organisations were able to purchase Extended Validation (EV) certificates from Comodo at the discounted price of $150 (US Dollars) per annum.
