Janet Certificate Service
JANET(UK) is able to provide subscribers of the Janet Certificate Service with a range of server certificates issued by Comodo CA.
- Comodo's business-validated certificate provides single-domain SSL encryption together with strong visual assurance for your website;
- Provides a high-level protection of 128/256 bit encryption;
- Trusted by all major browsers and 2048-bit ready securing the certificate for several years;
- Cannot be used for financial transactions
- Can be obtained through the JCS web portal here.
2. TERENA multi-domain SSL certificate
- Consolidate the SSL management process and maintain the SSL encryption for all of your domains with this certificate;
- Provides a high-level protection of 128/256 bit encryption;
- Trusted by all major browsers and 2048-bit ready securing the certificate for several years;
- Cannot be used for financial transactions
- Can be obtained throgh the JCS web portal here.
3. TERENA Wildcard certificate
- To request this certificate send your CSR to the Janet Service Desk
- The main use case identified for this type of certificate is to support the deployment of EZProxy servers;
- Wildcard certificates are not available through the normal web interface but upon request directly from JANET(UK). Please send an email to the Janet Service Desk by requesting a Wildcard certificate and attach the CSR in a plain text document;
- Wildcard certificates are available at the sub-domain level, that is to say, they can be used to secure sub-domains but not to secure entire domains due to potential security implications. For example, certificates can be issued for *.proxy.example.ac.uk but not for *.example.ac.uk;
- A saving of over £1,500 on each certificate;
- Cannot be used for financial transactions

4. Comodo Unified Communications (UC) certificate
- To request this certificate send your CSR to the Janet Service Desk
- Designed for securing multiple unique domains, for use with Microsoft Exchange 2007 and 2010, or Office Communications Server, where both external and internal domains are required such as mail.yourdomain.com, autodiscover.yourdomain.com, exchange1.yourdomain.local, etc.;
- UC certificates allows Subject Alternative Name (SAN) control, so you can add, remove, or change names the UC certificate at any time;
- There is list of acceptable Top Level Domains (TLD) for internal use that cannot be registered or controlled by the certificate requester which include
.test
.example, .invalid, .localhost, .local, .lan, .priv, .localdomain;
- Cannot be used for financial transactions

5. Comodo Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificate
- This certificate can be used for all financial transactions. These certificates usually cost in the region of £1,000 for a 3-year certificate, but Janet has made an arrangement with Comodo to provide it's subscribers with EVs at no cost;
- EV certificates can be requested by send an email together with the CSR (Certificate Signing Request) to the Janet Service Desk (tag@ja.net)
