SIX:Network Managers Consultation
21 October 2010
Hallam Conference Centre, 44 Hallam Street, London W1W 6JJ
Details
Planning for the future of the JANET: requirements gathering workshop aimed at Network Managers.
The SuperJANET5 project resulted in the current JANET backbone, based on dedicated optical fibres and associated data-transmission equipment, which has delivered world-leading advanced networking services to education and research since 2006. Key to this was a good understanding of the requirements of JANET users and stakeholders which were used to shape the network design choices. To make sure JANET(UK) continues to deliver a service that serves the missions of the organisations it connects it is important that the requirements of our stakeholders and diverse user base are gathered and analysed regularly to inform future procurement and development strategy.
JANET(UK) is beginning the process of capturing the requirements of our users to inform and guide the planning of the next backbone - a document that outlines this process is available from http://www.ja.net/development/six.html. Over the coming months JANET(UK) is consulting as widely as possible with JANET users and stakeholders to gather requirements. In the context of this consultation, JANET(UK) is holding a one day workshop aimed at network managers at educational organisations with a primary connection to JANET giving them an opportunity to have their input.
