The ResNET Birds of a Feather Sessions (BOFs) will provide attendees with an opportunity to discuss networking issues in an informal, after hours, atmosphere.  This session is not intended for formal presentations, and certainly not for vendor product presentations, but rather as a forum for discussions of "unsolved problems" and ³shared experiences².  The ResNet BOFs is open to all University staff working and supporting Halls of Residences networks installations and associated services.

The following are a list of topics for discussion and debate if you¹re interested in attending and discussing these topics please send me a email and I will compile a suitable agenda and attendee list.

Blue Sky's - What will the future bring  What plans, strategies does you institution have for the future? Do you have  plans underway for big changes, or are you doing something new that takes  your services to the cutting edge? Share your plans and successes.

Topics might include: outsourcing services, developing new IT partnerships for  delivering service, deploying  new technologies, new support models, redefining Service Level Agreements, creating new 'pay for service' models, identity management, wireless initiatives, and television/telephone services in the residence halls.

Education and Learning  

How are your Residential networks enhancing the learning opportunities or implementing new learning technologies for students at your institution, such as  academic partnerships, providing learning technologies in residences, residential learning communities, mobile learning technologies and social networking.

Support

Share your innovative ideas and operational successes (or failures) with your colleagues. Staffing  of residential services support, knowledge management, support issue solutions, evaluating your services and/or staff, drop-in service delivery, telephone support processes, help desk procedures, staff training, computer lab management, and more!

Security

Share your solutions for security, including dealing with virus and spyware invasions and intrusion detection/prevention. Educate your peers on the policies and technologies you have put in place to guide your clients in the area of virus protection, copyright infringement, privacy, encryption, packetshaping, smartphone policies, wireless policies, and group policies on public lab computers.

Cool Tools  

Share your ups and downs of the technologies and tools your utilising be them home grown or purchased.  Think of the topics above and what tools your using be them smartphone apps, websites and  software deployment.

Leadership and Management

What management or leadership approaches work in your residential network support? What project management, planning processes, hiring policies, committees, mentoring, partnerships, leadership training, strategic planning, budgets, document management, effective communications, and staff development.

Sustainability
