Modifying DNS Entries for ac.uk and gov.uk Domains

Payment and Charges

All organisations applying either for a new domain name, or modification, in the ac.uk domain must have an Approved ISP Membership Account with JANET(UK), unless they are connected to the JANET Network. There is no charge for ISPs having an Approved ISP Membership Account. However, this facility is generally only available to ISPs who anticipate that they will be submitting a number of domain name requests through JANET(UK).

JANET Customers:
Charges for Modification Requests

For the duration of their connectivity to the JANET Network, JANET customers will not be charged for any modification requests to their existing DNS entries under ac.uk/gov.uk, provided the changes made keep the domain name within the JANET Network.

Commercial ISPs
Charges for Modification Requests:

There will be a maintenance charge introduced for each modification request. The charge is £46 including VAT for a period of two years' maintenance. The new charge came into effect on 1 April 1999. A change of delegation will only be undertaken to a maintained name, so it is necessary for the designated Approved ISP, acting on behalf of the name owner, to join the maintenance scheme (Approved ISP Membership Account) if they wish to have the delegation of a non-maintained name changed;

There will be no initial charge for the first two years' maintenance for any new name registered, since the cost is already included in the charge for a new domain name.

The maintenance charge will cover all reasonable changes to delegation of the zone associated with the name.

ISPs will not be asked to join the maintenance scheme on behalf of owners of existing name registrations unless a new request for a change of delegation is made.

JANET(UK) reserves the right to charge for an excessive number of modifications made within a two year period. Relevant ISPs will be advised appropriately, if required.

Non-Payments:

If an ISP fails to pay an invoice within six months JANET(UK) reserves the right to remove the DNS entries for their customers for which no payment has been received. The consequence to the ISPs customers is that they will lose their DNS entry and thereby their email and web access through this address.
