JANET CSIRT Conference 2011

Monday, September 19th, 2011

JANET(UK) in conjunction with the JANET FE/HE community have organised the next JANET CSIRT Security Conference to be held on Thursday 10th November 2011 at One Wimpole Street, London, The Royal Society of Medicine building. Details of the event including the programme of speakers, and registration can be found on the JANET Events pages.

The security conferences have been very well supported and accepted by the community in the past and have been an excellent forum for exchange of ideas and of course the social networking that takes place in events such as these.

As in previous years there will be no charge for delegates to attend this event which means that while we make best endeavours to ensure that as much of the community as possible has a chance to attend there may have to be some restriction on numbers of delegates per institute attending depending on the response for places which will be restricted to 100 initially.

Security and JANET CSIRT at Networkshop 39

Monday, April 11th, 2011

There will be two sessions focusing on security at this year’s Networkshop. First is a parallel session on Wednesday morning with talks on honeypots, intrusion detection and IPv6. It will be followed in the late afternoon by an informal group led Birds of a Feather session. At CSIRT we find these events particularly useful for finding out what issues concern our community right now. Bradley Freeman and James Davis from JANET CSIRT will be attending all three days of the conference so please say hello at any time.

  • Wednesday 13th April 11:15 – 12:30, Session 2b Security, room N001
  • Wednesday 13th April 17:45 – 18:30, Security Birds of a Feather session, room N002

JANET CSIRT Conference 2010

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

JANET(UK) in conjunction with the JANET community are currently planning the next JANET CSIRT Security Conference to be held in the latter half of October 2010 on a date and at a venue to be confirmed.

As in previous years there will be no charge for delegates to attend this event which means that while we will make best endeavours to ensure that as much of the community as possible has a chance to attend there may have to be some restriction on numbers of delegates per institute attending depending on the response for places which will be restricted to 100 initially.

We would appreciate hearing from members of the community with ideas for content or recommendations for speakers. We would also welcome volunteers from the community to present a security based or security topical talk/presentation to like minded members of the JANET community. The conferences tend to be a fairly short day to
allow delegates to travel to and from the venue, as far as possible, on the same day therefore it is usual to have a full program of short presentations with adequate breaks for networking and discussion. This does not exclude the odd longer presentation if an abridged version might lose its punch.

The security conferences have been very well supported and accepted by the community in the past and have been an excellent forum for exchange of ideas and of course the social networking that takes place in events
such as these.

Please forward any comments or suggestions directly to wally.jackson@ja.net.

Birds of a Feather Session at Networkshop 38

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

A Security BoF is scheduled for the the first day of Networkshop 38, at 17:45 on the 30th. The nature of a BoF is that it should be an informal, ad-hoc, relaxed, group-led session. If anyone has any particular topics that they’d like to bring up, then it may be useful to let us know so that we can bring some ideas with us.

Some suggestions:

  • Our recent automation of particular reports, is this useful? helpful? desirable?
  • Experiences of dealing with the press and incident response
  • Ideas for detecting malicious activity on JANET
  • PGP key signing

I look forward to seeing you there.

JANET(UK) is currently seeking input from the community on topic areas they would like to see covered at Networkshop 2010. The topics areas could include challenging areas, common issues/problems, work around ideas etc for networking or in the provision of application services.

Please could you send your suggestions to Rina Samani. Closing date for suggestions is Thursday 5th November 2009.
