Promotional Material

The material on this page is intended for use by IT Services and Administration team members at participating organisations as an aid to promoting eduroam within the organisation. Comprehensive documentation for end users and other interested parties is available on the 'Documentation' web page.

Having made the investment in time and resources to implement eduroam, it makes sense for organisations to ensure that their users are fully aware of the benefits that eduroam brings and how to use it most effectively. Organisations must ensure that sufficient IT Services/administration effort is allocated to promote the service to users and to improve user education about eduroam. This needs a certain amount of cross-department liaison and co-operation (eg. IT Services-University Administration and IT Services-Faculty Heads).

Suggestions for achieving this include:

  • Info in a 'joining pack' - if the administration team gives one out to new students/researchers/staff. (this could be a half page or pamphlet about eduroam at the organisation or be a credit card-sized end user hints 'n' tips card)
  • Inclusion of information about eduroam during the organisation's network user account registration process.
  • General advertisement of the service on campus (e.g. via posters) and through organisations' eduroam service information web page (which is Tech Spec mandatory requirement)
  • Greater prominence for the eduroam service on an organisation's main 'Visitors Information' web page and 'Studying/working at the organisation' information pages. Quite often the IT Services eduroam/wireless LAN info page is buried away somewhere that you have to do a site-wide search to locate it!
  • Distribution of 'eduroam' stickers on walls where the service is available / place drinks coasters in communal areas where the service is available.

In addition to the Janet-produced material, you will find pdf examples of Geant-produced collateral. Source files (InDesign) are available for these which will enable you to adapt these materials for your own use. Some additional support may also be available to you, depending on the circumstances. User education about eduroam, benefits and usage (softcopy):

What is eduroam animated video - What is eduroam? - required viewing for all Freshers!

General advertisement of service (hardcopy) and image files for inclusion in eduroam information web sites:

  • 'Stay in touch with eduroam' postcard (150 x 100) (sample) - obsolete/in need of overhaul.

Service advertisement at locations where eduroam guest network is available:

  • Wall stickers. Why not get some stickers produced and place these in areas where wireless eduroam network service is available?
    For example:

Bangor University eduroam wireless hotzone poster

  • eduroam logosticker For locations where you wish to promote the service to users. (Geant produced).
  • Drinks Coasters. How about placing logoed coasters/beer mats in public areas where the service is available or include these in students joining packs? Your info page URL could be added. Coasters will cost around 30p each will be money well spent. We have some examples available to convince budget holders - available on request.

Artwork for eduroam drinks coasters - this may be freely downloaded and adapted for your own organisation: eduroam coaster (Adobe InDesign CS3). (Produced by Janet).

Make yourself @home with eduroam drinks coaster - features, benefits and how to get started; for users/general interest. (Produced by Geant).
  • Network outlet (RJ45) point stickers If you have eduroam available on wired network outlets, small stickers could be produced to mark the RJ45 outlets. Stickers can easily be produced by participating organisations using the graphics downloads.

Acceptable usage of eduroam graphics - softcopies of the above graphics may be incorporated into you own material, eg. web page, provided that the images are unchanged apart from resized. 'eduroam' will need to be recognisable as it is now and must not be obscured by background patterns, font altered, image stretched, skewed, tilted, framed, augmented, effects applied or colours changed. If you are going to incorporate them into something like your own sticker combined with your own graphics/service advertising we'd like to have a final look at your intended design before you go ahead with it. The eduroam logo can also be moved or resized proportionately but not otherwise altered. The background can however be changed and further text can be added, but not too closely.
