From 1 August 2011 Access Grid Toolkit, IOCOM and EVO technologies on JANET will be supported by the JANET Videoconferencing Service Management Centre in Edinburgh. The Access Grid Support Centre in Manchester will continue supporting users until 31 July 2011.
This relocation of support is being made to simplify communications for our users so that they will have only one point of contact for all videoconferencing needs. It will not result in any change to the service received by users and will allow JANET to deliver better value for money for the community.
Since 2004 the Access Grid Support Centre has been operated by the University of Manchester, providing technical assistance to JANET users of AG videoconferencing technologies under a contract which comes to an end this summer. We would like to take the opportunity to thank the Access Grid Support Centre for their work and promotion of these technologies, which has resulted in substantial growth in the HE & FE sector.
JANET also supports standards based (H.323) videoconferencing, which is provided by the University of Edinburgh under a contract with JANET(UK). This has resulted in a certain amount of duplication and the need for JANET users to contact different support teams. This move is being undertaken to remove this duplication.
