JANET QoS PROJECT PHASE 1 - OBJECTIVES
-
To define an open, non-proprietary framework for QoS services that will, as far as possible, not exclude any JANET Regional Networks or JANET connected organisations.
[The model will be based on DiffServ and include a policy framework for the implementation of QoS services, including initial proposals on resource management and accounting systems that may be required. Issues such as authentication and authorisation with regards to eligibility of use of QoS services will also be considered.]
-
A set of classes, as defined by the QoS Think Tank report that will be implemented on the JANET backbone and Regional Networks for end-to-end QoS services, in order to support the broad range of network applications running across JANET.
[The work carried out as part of the European Commission-funded SEQUIN project will be used as a basis for the framework and specifically for the definition of the QoS classes.]
-
Prototype the QoS framework on an end-to-end basis across the different management domains on JANET, where possible using the production network as a basis for any implementation and using the testbed network if there is any unacceptable risk.
-
Assess whether the QoS prototype implementation works, and determine the nature of any interaction between the QoS service classes.
-
Determine what monitoring is required to support QoS services and implement these monitoring facilities to support testing of the prototype service. An end-to-end network view (i.e. across management domains) will be taken when determining the monitoring requirements.
