JANET MULTICAST STATUS

Status of Multicast between the JANET backbone and the Regional Networks

Multicast data is transported on the JANET backbone and is delivered to each Regional Network where it connects to a Backbone Access Router (BAR). Each Regional Network is responsible for forwarding multicast data to its member organisations who are in turn responsible for internal distribution to end-users over their LAN infrastructures. In this sense multicast data is no different from normal unicast traffic.
