JANET(UK)'S MULTICAST PLANS

JANET(UK) is planning to undertake the following work in the Multicast area:

Publication of Material

• Update to the JANET Multicast Guide
• JANET Multicast Factsheet
• Guidance material to assist regional and site networks during equipment procurements
• IPv6 Multicast on JANET Technical Guide

 

Multicast on JANET

• JANET is currently configured to support multicast on the backbone. Work will commence to assist those regional and sites networks that do not have multicast currently enabled.
• Look at the provision of multicast content over the JANET infrastructure.
• Explore Source Specific Multicast (SSM) .
• Explore the interaction of Multicast with other technologies such as IPv6 and QoS.
• Explore the availability of Multicast troubleshooting and debugging tools.
• Introduction of Multicast into the JANET Service Level Agreement and Regional Network Contracts.
• JANET(UK) will configure Multicast on the SuperJANET5 backbone from day 1, with a view to enabling IPv6 Multicast thereafter.
