Measurement Data For Research

Subject to a policy and legal framework, JANET(UK) publishes certain types of data for use by network researchers and others within the JANET community. The data is intended to support research that may assist the future operation or development of the network. Data is gathered from various systems and is provided on a best effort basis. Prior to use, data should be verified by the user.

This works supports the high-level requirement arising from the SuperJANET5 project to improve "visibility" of JANET performance data.

The following data is available:

  • JANET Utilization data
Five minute utilization data on the JANET backbone and Regional Network access links. See an animation of a day of backbone data for an example of how this data can be used.
  • BGP peering
It is possible to peer with JANET in order to receive a full BGP feed.
  • ISIS topology
A diagram outlining the ISIS weights in the backbone is available.
  • Network Flow Data
It is not currently possible to make network flow data available. Please see the pages on flow monitoring for an update on progress in this area.

For the availability of other data types or more information please contact Jeremy Sharp.
