Benefits to Schools
Learners and teachers:
- log-in once per session to access resources from all service providers that are members of the federation, and that the user is authorised to access
- can be confident that the user's privacy is preserved as no personal information need be disclosed to third parties.
- are able to access licensed resources from outside the school environment, such as at home or in a public library
Schools:
- are freed from the burdens of managing numerous licenses to allow users access to on-line resources and can enjoy the benefits of aggregated service provision through their Regional Broadband Consortium or Local Authority
- no longer need to assign multiple usernames and passwords to allow them to access members’ resources.
- can more easily comply with regulatory requirements, such as those of the Data Protection Act 1998
- have the potential to use the same access management system for all resources, both internal and external
