CONNECTIONS ADVISOR

1. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The main function of the post is to handle requests from existing customers and new customers requiring Janet connections; analyse their requirements and work with colleagues to identify the best technical solution, obtain quotes from circuit suppliers and apply the correct tariff before sending the details to the customer.

 

The Connections Advisor will also support the team leader in a range of administrative activities.

 

The post holder will work in the Network Infrastructure Group, Connections Management Section.

The Connections Advisor reports to the team leader.

3. MAIN DUTIES

This vacancy notice sets out the main duties of the post.  Specific duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or level of responsibility entailed.

The main duties of the post are to: 

  • Analyse the Janet connections requirements of existing customers and new customers
  • Liaise with customers and colleagues in the Customer Engagement area to clarify customer requirements
  • Liaise with colleagues in the Network Operations Centre to identify the best technical solution for connections
  • Ensure that all relevant information has been gathered before quotations are requested from circuit suppliers, to meet agreed timescales
  • Evaluate supplier quotes and applying the appropriate Janet tariff before producing customer quotes for connections
  • Handle queries from customers and colleagues about the solutions identified and the costs involved
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records including input to the Central Database Facility
  • Process ad hoc requests to cancel connections
  • Support the team leader  with other activities relating to queries from customers and suppliers about Janet connection requirements
  • Maintain Quality documents as required, identifying where processes may need to be reviewed.

 

4. SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and a good telephone manner
  • Able to translate and communicate technical information so that it can be clearly understood by customers and colleagues
  • Able to take a well-organised, methodical and flexible approach to work, prioritising the workload in order to meet targets
  • Able to analyse information and anticipate problems, raising issues in a timely manner to ensure quotes are issued on time
  • Self-motivated and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Able to work independently on standard tasks with a minimum amount of supervision, providing feedback that assists with the work of the team
  • Knowledge of Office based IT systems
  • The post holder will need to develop an appreciation of the network topology and how this impacts on customer connections.

5. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The Connections Advisor must have a good general standard of education at degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline and/or proven experience of working in a service environment. An understanding of the basic components required for setting-up a data network would be an advantage.

The salary for this position is £24,495 per annum. The position is a full-time, permanent position.  The closing date for completed applications is 12 noon on Friday 17 February 2012.
