WEB GROUP MANAGER
1. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Marketing function is responsible for developing and delivering the company’s marketing strategy through a combination of corporate communications, brand and campaign management.
The Web Group Manager is a senior role leading the development and execution of the JANET(UK) online presence to maximise the return on the investment made in JANET, particularly by enhancing interaction with different audiences including stake-holders, customers and the wider community. The scope includes digital strategy, marketing, promotion and brand management as well as leading the development and implementation of the JANET Portal.
Creativity, excellence in design and technical knowledge together with a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities that the web offers for effective communications and service delivery are essential. Experience of the engagement benefits of effective online strategies and campaigns will be matched with a business perspective for the opportunities.
2. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Marketing function reports to the Head, Strategic Business. Within the function there are two equal lead positions, the Head of Marketing who has responsibility for non-online activities and the Web Group Manager who has responsibility for online activities. Both positions manage small teams and will be expected to work closely together, sharing resources and collaborating as required as well as working with the rest of the organisation to deliver on objectives. In addition to this post the Web team will consist of a Web Developer, a Portal Developer and a Web Marketing Officer.
3. MAIN DUTIES
This vacancy notice sets out the main duties of the post. Specific duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the duties or level of responsibility entailed.
The postholder will:
- lead the design, development and use of e-marketing in JANET(UK), including responsibility for the JANET(UK) website, introducing new features and functions, and building profile through social media, influential websites, digital directories and social forums
- manage all content (quality, format, brand and message) on JANET(UK)’s websites and in social media to ensure web-friendly copy, high quality imagery and to improve impact of our online presence
- have responsibility for developing a consistent JANET(UK) brand online, both on JANET(UK) sites and for usage by partners, suppliers and stakeholders, and strategy for further development of this brand
- have responsibility for the design, commissioning and implementation of the JANET Portal – a portal/content management system that will become the primary online service and engagement facility for internal and external customers and a single coordinated set of resources for the company and community
- manage a small Web team and share of budget within accepted guidelines
- review electronic channels and tools used by the organisation to identify and develop optimized content use; develop and lead the implementation of e-Marketing plans and campaigns to provide a seamless customer experience regardless of channel
- develop and monitor analytics to maximise performance of e-communications, search engine optimisation strategy, and reporting on performance
- ensure consistent usability and accessibility across websites. Ensure compliance with Web accessibility and professional codes of practice within UK law
- integrate online strategies with the offline strategies with the Marketing Manager under the coordination of the Head, Strategic Business.
4. SKILLS REQUIRED
The postholder is expected to have in-depth knowledge of digital marketing and service delivery. It is very likely that the successful candidate will have a degree in Marketing and/or Digital Marketing or equivalent professional qualification, and will have significant experience of managing digital marketing campaigns in complex organisational and devolved environments.
The postholder will need strength in online design as well as usability, and will need technical expertise sufficient to ensure appropriate choices ensure delivery of optimal technical solutions. It is likely the postholder will have some web development experience.
The postholder will be expected to champion new means of engaging with our community, with the aim of driving service uptake and customer engagement. A key part of the role will be the identification of opportunities for improving our online content and implementing delivery mechanisms to ensure that the focus is on delivering tangible business benefits.
The postholder will be a proactive and self motivated person with a ‘can do’ attitude who has an ability to work with a wide range of people to harness their knowledge and cooperation in delivering objectives.
5. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The postholder should ideally have the following qualifications and/or experience:
- a good standard of education to degree level probably in a marketing related field
- practical experience in web development/marketing
- demonstrable evidence leading digital marketing strategy
- Web content management experience, ideally in a complex CMS/Portal environment
- demonstrable evidence of innovative online content creation and delivery
- demonstrable design experience and understanding of design and usability elements
- a knowledge of relevant technologies and standards
- significant Web based marketing experience, including copywriting.

The salary for this position is £42,395 per annum and is a full-time, permanent position. The closing date for completed applications is 12 noon on Tuesday 17 August 2010. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 7 September 2010.
