JANETtxt nears 10 million
With a record 1 million texts in September!
Purchases of JANETtxt messages reached over 1 million in September 2010 - half of which have already been consumed!
The SMS Service has continued to grow since its launch in May 2007, and now boasts sales of over 10 million text messages, and 280 registrations throughout the education community.
Costing 4p per text, the SMS service has been used for a number of applications from text alerts for students and staff, to providing reminders for library returns. The service can be used across communication devices - mobiles, landlines and emails and we are now starting to see new applications for the service. These include an initiative to prevent knife crime in Aberdeen, and activities to improve students’ ability to spell correctly. A less obvious application of the service has been its use by RNIB to communicate with their blind and learning disabled students.
You can find out more about the RNIB’s use of JANETtxt in JANET News online.
