JANET(UK) at 6UK launch event

11 November 2010: Jeremy Sharp from JANET(UK) will today be taking part in the panel session of the 6UK launch event in London, alongside Vint Cerf (Google), Nigel Titley (6UK), Tom Klieber (Comcast) and Latif Ladid (EU IPv6 Forum). The event has been organised as part of an initiative by BIS to promote IPv6 in the UK.

JANET(UK) has been involved in IPv6 for over a decade, and has established a programme of related activities to encourage JANET regional operators and network managers at its customer organisations to get familiar with the deployment and operation of IPv6 services within their networks. As well as a range of supporting literature, JANET(UK) provides training services and advice on procurement to establish that all new equipment is IPv6 compatible.

Jeremy comments: "We are pleased to be invited to participate in this event. As a leading NREN it has always been natural for JANET to be involved in IPv6: we have the history and experience to recognise its strategic importance and to support our customers in positioning themselves to adopt it. IPv6 has been and continues to be an important element of the JANET Development Programme."

Future growth of the Internet depends on wide use of IPv6 addresses as the current range of Internet addressed, based on IPv4, is expected to dry up within the next two years.
