EastNET Update
30/03/07: Over the past 2 years, JANET(UK) has undertaken the process of upgrading the east of England academic network (EastNET) - the regional infrastructure that connects academic institutions in the east of England to JANET.
The existing ‘EastNET1’ infrastructure was based on a 155Mbps star topology connecting out from the University of Cambridge:

The new ‘EastNET2’ infrastructure is based on a 1Gbps dual ring topology, which connects to SuperJANET5 via the EastNET regional arc:

The idea behind this design was to add resilience to the network.
The EastNET2 infrastructure was formally handed over to JANET(UK) by NTL on Monday 5th February 2007. Migration over to the new infrastructure of all sites connected to EastNET began on Tuesday 6th March and is currently on schedule to be completed by Thursday 12th April 2007, after which time the old ‘EastNET1’ infrastructure will be decommissioned.
