Schools Services: Information for VC Content Providers
JANET(UK) and the JANET Videoconferencing Service (JVCS) support content providers in the delivery of educational videoconferences via JVCS. JANET(UK) can consult with any prospective and existing content providers at no charge. JANET(UK) has worked with content providers on using JVCS, solving technical networking or production issues, advising on hardware and piloting new educational content. See below for: |

Technical Assistance and Advice Content providers registered with JVCS are eligible to receive support from the JVCS Operators during videoconferences. For assistance telephone +44 (0)131 6504933 or email vidconf@jvcs.ja.net The JVCS Management Centre is open Mon-Fri 08:00-21:00 & Sat 08:00-17:00. Advice on technical problems with videoconferencing is also available from the JANET Video Technology Advisory Service (VTAS). Registering to become a JVCS Content Provider It is recommended that any potential content providers consult with the Schools Content Coordinator, Tim Boundy, before registering with JVCS. Content Providers are eligible to use the facilities for the sole purpose of the delivery of educational content to UK universities, research establishments, colleges and schools. The main benefits from using JVCS and the Booking Service to manage videoconferences are the facilities to:
Content providers require a licence to use the JVCS and must adhere to the JVCS Content Provider Policy (PDF). The JVCS Licence is subject to an annual service charge of £300 (+VAT) for each registered videoconference system. To register content providers will need to complete a Content Providers Reference Form (doc) with a reference from a Local Authority, Grid for Learning, Becta, LTS or C2KNI, supporting the content that you plan to deliver. |

Where possible content providers and their content are listed on the VC Content pages of this website. JANET(UK) and the Schools Content Coordinator regularly present at regional, national and international conferences and shows. This is a great opportunity for content providers to provide short live demonstrations of their content to teachers via videoconference. Content Providers are also invited to Subscribe to the Videoconferencing for Schools Project (VCSP) email list. VCSP is a UK-wide list for those in the education and cultural sectors involved in delivering, receiving or enabling education via videoconferencing. Although overt marketing is not permitted, some information about new content or other services for schools would be appropriate.

Holding a Large VC event (with optional assistance from JANET) It is quite feasible to hold large videoconference events involving multiple schools from around the UK or the world. The recent Night and Day by Videoconference run by JANET(UK) and embc event involved 42 schools and three content providers from the UK and Australia. the event was equipped with a question forum. If you would like to hold a themed VC event (or series of events) and would like some help with setting it up and managing the event on the day please contact Tim Boundy. |
