Schools Services: Connectivity

Through joint initiatives with the DCSF, DCELLS, C2KNI, LTS and Becta, all state schools benefit from JANET connectivity via their Local Authority or Regional Broadband Consortium. The interconnection of the UK regions via JANET underpins the National Education Network (NEN).

JANET(UK) is unable to offer individual connections to state schools. In cases where a school is experiencing problems with connectivity, they should contact their local authority or RBC who will understand their needs and requirements.

All state schools with connectivity to the NEN and JANET have access to some JANET services:

• Authenticating access to teaching resources for use in schools
• Buying equipment for school or local authority videoconferencing
• JANET texting services for use in schools and local authorities
• Videoconferencing support and booking services
  
  

Independent Schools

Independent schools in the UK are eligible for connection to JANET according to our General Tariff The arrangement provides for a direct synchronous connection to the JANET network via one of the JANET Points of Presence or local connection points. Bandwidths from 10Mb to 10Gb are available. Independent schools connected to JANET have access to all JANET Services except the issue and use of .ac.uk domain names.
